Faith in Action: Haiti
The Cathedral
The National Cathedral in Haiti (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Port-au-Prince) was left in rubble after January's earthquake. Many people died when parts of the cathedral collapsed, including choir members and the Archbishop of Haiti, Joseph Serge Miot.
The last time Archbishop Timothy Dolan was in Haiti, he attended Archbishop Miot's funeral. Even then, Dolan found reason to hope. For standing high above all of the rubble, was the cross of Christ.
Dolan returned to Haiti in August, fulfilling a promise he had made to return and to help keep the plight of Haiti before the world.
Reflecting on this during his recent visit, Dolan said God was there in January amidst all of the suffering.
"I'm hearing people crying. I'm hearing people moaning....You're tempted to say where is God in all of this? And I said to myself, 'He is here. This is Good Friday, this is Calvary. This is Jesus again on his cross, suffering with and for his people. And what will come from this is rebirth, renewal, rebuilding.' And indeed it is."

Oil has stopped spilling from the remains of the Deepwater Horizon rig, which suffered a blowout, burned and collapsed in April.
However, 11 lives have been lost and more than 92 million gallons of oil have poured into the Gulf of Mexico, affecting the lives of its residents, as well as the environment, for years to come.
Odyssey Networks took a film crew to Biloxi, Mississippi to document what is happening to people trying to adjust to yet another catastrophe to hit the area.
