This week marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark piece of civil rights legislation that prohibits racial discrimination in voting.  The 2014 election saw the lowest voter turnout since World War II.  According to Rabbi Brad Hirschfield, president of Clal and co-founder and executive editor of TheWisdomDaily.com, we should focus now on creating “a culture in which people enthusiastically embrace the power they have” as democracy “can’t sustain its citizens walking away from using their voice.”
